Intersphincteric resection (ISR) and very low anterior resection (VLAR) are surgical procedures used in rectal malignancy</span></span></span><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times="">. </span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times="">We aimed to compare postoperative complications and recurrence after VLAR and ISR techniques in patients with rectal cancer.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:11pt"><span style="line-height:150%"><span style="unicode-bidi:embed"><span calibri="" style="font-family:"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><span style="color:black">Methods:</span></span></span></span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""><span style="color:black"> In this retrospective study, 80 rectal cancer patients who underwent VLRA and ISR in Shahid Faghihi, and Abu-Ali Sina Charity Hospitals, Shiraz, Iran from 2019 to 2023 were enrolled.</span></span></span></span><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><span style="line-height:150%"><span new="" roman="" style="font-family:" times=""> Eligible patients were divided into two groups based on the type of operation.
