It involves external rotation of the lower limb with an intact neurovascular bundle to function as a knee joint. Functionally, it has better outcomes when compared to alternate options like above knee amputation. It results in better cortical reorganization and superior stance mechanics, enabling a more efficient gait and better quality of life.
