Abstract
Although hand injuries due to kite strings seem to be trivial, these injuries could be serious enough to lose the function of hand. This case series in the division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of our institution from August 2014 to January 2016 evaluated the clinic-etiological profile, severity and management of hand injuries due to kite strings assessed clinically and radiologically. Eleven patients reported kite related injuries during two years, and 5 presented during 17 months. Of 11 patients, 8 were male and 3 were female with a M:F ratio of 2.66:1. The majority of patients presented with the mean age of 19.9±4.27 years. Eight patients presented acutely to the emergency while 3 believed the injury to be trivial and had delayed presentation. Injuries in the right hand were 8 and 3 in the left hand. Seven patients had injuries in zone II of the hand while 4 presented with zone III injuries. Total number of injured digits was 14 (1.4±1.11), total number of injured tendons was 26 (2.36±2.18), only one patient had nerve injury (mean=0.09), and no patient had any major vessel injury. So strict attention to safety measures and parental/guardian supervision while flying kites can avoid many preventable injuries to life and limb and also let the sport be an enjoyable and safe.

Abstract
Background: Hand zone II flexor tendon repair had been associated with many complications thereby it was previously called no man's land. Although there is some agreement on the primary repair of flexor tendons in this area, it is challenging due to certain complications.
We compared the six and four-strand techniques in the repair of flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendons of zone II.
Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial was registered with the Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials (IRCT20130812014333N139). Fifty patients with damaged FDP in zone II of the hand who were referred to Taleghani Hospital, Kermanshah, Iran in 2020 were included and divided into two groups (n=25). In group 1, the damaged tendons were repaired using the four-strand technique and prolene suture while in group 2, the six-strand technique was used. Postoperatively, the patients were examined every week for the first three weeks. In the second and third weeks, sutures were removed. At the end of 3rd month, the outcomes of surgery were compared in the groups.
Results: Fifty patients (74% male) with 85 damaged fingers were investigated. Based on Buck-Gramcko criteria, the outcomes of surgery were excellent in 78%, good in 16%, fair in 4%, and bad in 2%. Complications after surgery were adhesion (8%) and 2 cases of rupture. There was no significant difference between 4 and 6-strand sutures regarding tendon adhesion and range of motion.
Conclusion: Both 4 and 6-strand sutures were associated with favorable outcomes in patients with damaged FDP in zone II of the hand.

Abstract
Background: Hand injury as an important concern for the surgeon and the patient requires proper and timely treatment to prevent complications such as infection and adhesions, and with a proper rehabilitation program, the patient returns to maximum function as soon as possible. We aimed to investigate the short-term and long-term treatment results of deep flexor tendon repair in in zone II.
Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 34 patients with 45 injured fingers in the zone II referred to Ahvaz Imam Khomeini Hospital, Ahvaz, Iran during 2017-2019. The results of deep flexor tendons repair in two groups, immediate and delayed primary repair were assessed.
Results: The mean age of the patients was 27.76 years. There was no significant remarkable between male and female in the incidence of complications such as infection, tendon rupture and adhesions. 29.4% (n=10) had poor outcome, 8.8% (n=3) had fair outcome, 29.4% (n=10) had good outcome and 32.4% (n=11) had excellent outcomes. 26.5% had adhesion and infection rate was 11.8%.
Conclusion: Among surgeons, there is consensus for the primary repair of tendon injury, but there was no significant difference between the results of immediate and delayed primary repair. Although physiotherapy has been suggested as an effective factor in improving hand function, its positive effect on the range of motion of the fingers has not been proven.
